History of the Utah Student Association

• Beginning – The first constitution of the Utah Student Association is from 1983. The Utah Council of Student Body Presidents, which is now the Utah Student Association, began before 1973.

• Executive Director position- Created in 2004, with the intent of growing the Utah Student Association. The Executive Director position has offered the Utah Student Association a consistent framework to build on. As the Utah student Association continues to grow managing the affairs of the student group has become a greater need. last year Utah Student Association has hosted the Civic Engagement conference. This conference was coordinated by the Executive Director. The Utah Student Association will continue to focus on civic engagement and student involvement in the legislative process.

• Board of Directors- Established in 2009, The Board of Directors over sees and provides guidance for the Utah Student Association. The Executive Director also reports to the Board of Directors and is evaluated by the Board.

• Strong support from the office of the Commissioner of higher education has been given to the Utah Student Association over the past years. The Commissioner of Higher education, William Sederburg, has given the Utah Student Association office space in the Regent office. Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs has been assigned to work with the Utah Student Association and provides legislative advice to the Executive Director.
