Utah Student Association Presidency

The USA Presidency is made up of the USA President, Executive Vice President, and Legislative Vice President. The USA Presidency is selected from members of the USA Executive Board. Members of the presidency are also nominated and voted on by the Executive board. For more information please refer to the constitution.

Richard Portwood- President (UVU)

Richard T. Portwood is currently a senior at Utah Valley University studying Economics and Spanish. Richard grew up in Park City, Utah and is the fourth of six children. Richard enjoys the outdoors, whether it is running, hiking, skiing, biking, photography, or playing sports. This summer Richard has interned in the Demographic and Economic Analysis section of the Governor's office, which has provided him with valuable understanding of state operations. As the Student Body President of UVU, Richard's campaign slogan was "Elevate." He believes this term is also synonymous for all he plans to do with the Utah Student Association. "The potential we have as a state-wide student association is incredible."

Richard looks forward to collaborating with each college and university in the state to better understand the specific needs and issues which they face.

 

 

 


 

Chase Jardine- Vice President (UofU)

 

Chase Jardine is a senior studying Economics and Chemistry at the University of Utah.  He has loved his time at the U of U and has been involved in a variety of organizations.  His freshman year he joined the Sigma Chi fraternity and has been an active member ever since and has a great love for Greek Row. For the past three years Chase has played for the U of U’s rugby team which continues to have great success.  Chase is also a member of the Student Alumni Board, which helps oversee the MUSS and various other school spirited groups.  While at the U of U Chase has also served as member of several boards at the LDS Institute including the LDS Athletes Board, Campus Relations Board, and the Interfaith Council..

 

 

 


 

Cooper Henderson- Legislative Vice President (WC)

 

Cooper is the 2010-2011 Student Body President at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Cooper is a Senior at Westminster studying Economics with a minor in Spanish, this summer he received a research grant to analyze the Utah State Legislature and recent ethics reforms. Outside of student government, Cooper participates on the Ethics Bowl team, plays intramural basketball, and loves to explore the outdoors. A native of Moab, Utah, Cooper has interned for both Governor Jon Huntsman and Congressman Jim Matheson during his college career.

Cooper looks forward to serving all students within Utah's system of higher education this year as the USA Legislative Vice President: "I am genuinely excited to help my peers across this wonderful state engage and take ownership of our government, particularly the legislative process."
